“Ahéheé” — a word in the Navajo language meaning “thank you” — is the heart of this design.
The history of Native American tribes is marked by displacement and tragedy, yet their culture has endured through oral tradition, prayer, song, and dance. Even without a written script, their words traveled like the wind, carried across generations.
This design incorporates the red face paint of the Waorani people, symbolizing their ongoing fight to defend their land, rights, and dignity in the modern age.
The feathers included in the illustration are sacred emblems of connection and prayer. For Native people, feathers link the earth to the sky, a reminder of the spiritual bond between humans and nature. In Japan as well, animals were traditionally counted as “one wing,” “one head,” or “one tail” rather than as mere “creatures” — words that carried a sense of reverence. This linguistic respect mirrors the Indigenous worldview of honoring all living beings.
The illustration for this piece was created by Mizuki, who once worked as a manga assistant.

「Ahéheé（アヘへ）」——ナバホ族の言葉で「ありがとう」を意味するこの一語をモチーフにしました。
アメリカ先住民族の歴史は、移民による迫害と虐殺の影に覆われています。それでも彼らは口伝や祈り、歌やダンスを通じて文化を継承し続けてきました。文字を持たずとも、言葉は風に乗り、世代を超えて生き残ってきたのです。
このデザインは、目の周りを赤く彩るワオラニ族の戦いの化粧を取り入れ、彼らが現代においても権利を主張し、土地と命を守り抜いている姿を重ねています。
また、イラストに添えられたフェザー（羽飾り）は、インディアンにとって「祈りと繋がり」の象徴。空を舞う鳥が天と地をつなぎ、羽はその証として身につけられてきました。
日本でも古来、鳥や動物を「一羽」「一頭」「一尾」と数え、ただの“匹”として扱わない敬意の言葉を持っていました。羽や命を数えるその感覚は、自然への畏敬を忘れなかったインディアンの文化と響き合うものがあります。
この作品のイラストは、漫画家アシスタントの経験を持つ 美月 による描き下ろし。
